Autism affects 1:160 children and Epilepsy - a tendency to have seizures - is reported in up to 40% of persons with autism. These are huge numbers but even bigger is the impact on so many families.
There is a stigma about autism that is melting thanks to groups like TACA. The stigma around epilepsy is still very real and the lack of information about seizures and epilepsy is so great that each and every time a child or adult has a convulsion the fear and dread that grips those watching is clear on their faces.
I am part of a movement to educate the public about epilepsy through blogs, through supporting grassroots movements like www.purpleday.org and through public speaking. I am delighted to be speaking for TACA Orange County California http://www.tacanow.org/local-chapters/california/orange-county/ on Childhood Seizures and Autism
Date: Jluy 9, 2011 Time 1:00 - 3:30 PM for more information see their web site: http://www.tacanow.org/local-chapters/california/orange-county/
