Subject: From AES President - Support Clinic in Haiti
Dear Dr. Stein:
The unimaginable disaster in Haiti is consuming all available medical resources. The Port-au-Prince Epilepsy Clinic supported by the international community has treated over 1,000 patients in the last 18 months. The devastation caused by the earthquake has forced the clinic to close. Thankfully, the Clinic staff, headed by Dr. Alix Elie, is safe.
To resume their work they will need money for repairs, drugs and new equipment. Worse, the economic devastation of Haiti will mean that patients can no longer pay even the small fees that helped support the clinic. After the immediate crisis, sustained help will be vital. We are appealing to all our members to contribute to a special fund for the clinic's work. In addition, the International League Against Epilepsy via its North American Commission has allocated $25,000 to a sustainability project in Haiti which will help in ensuring the continuing provision of epilepsy services locally.
The AES board is totally supportive of this appeal. Dr. Lionel Carmant, an AES member from Montreal, has been in direct contact with Dr. Elie. He will be keeping us informed on the needs of the clinic. We will relay any updates to the membership.
Join us in getting the Epilepsy Clinic back in operation as soon as possible --- CONTRIBUTE HERE!
Thank you,
Jaideep Kapur, MD, Ph.D., AES President

Please consider those who have been through so much. I love giving back to the community personally - but somehow right now Haiti feels so close and those with epilepsy will need a clinic so that they can be part of rebuilding Haiti. Epilepsy should not be a disability, in the USA, Haiti or around the world.
Be Well, send your good thoughts to those who are so affected now in Haiti and elsewhere, and if you can, send your support ($) as well. There are many other great sites to donate to help out...
